Date of issue: 27 June 2007

he setting up of the state border was started after the Hungarian Conquest and completed during the period of the organisation of the Kingdom of Hungary. The foundation of early Hungarian boarder guarding and the organisation of border protection is linked to the name of king Saint László I. His memory is preserved to this day by the Border Guard, and they have chosen him as their patron saint, and Saint László’s day has become the Border Guard Day. The main motif of the stamp image is the German Shepherd dog, which helps the border guards and their work. Further elements are the Border Guard coat of arms and the turul bird embroidery of the border guard uniform. The background print depicts a part of the embroidered border hunter flag. The first day cover shows a border guard motorboat, and the cancellation stamp graphic a stylised drawing of the stamp used when passing over the border. Source: www.brdsz.hu
