This year the festival is being staged for the sixth time and is focusing on works of the verismo school from the turn of the 19th-20th centuries that attempted to show the reality of the world at the time. In addition to Bartók, pieces both known and never before performed in Hungary by Alfano, Giordano, Mascagni, Leoncavallo and Puccini are on the rich programme. As in previous years, the programme of this year’s opera festival features Béla Bartók’s popular works Duke Bluebeard’s Castle and The Miraculous Mandarin in renditions by new performers. Besides the National Theatre in Miskolc, the other venues include the Palace Hotel in Lillafüred, the stalactite cave in Aggtelek, the Miskolc synagogue, the hall of Miskolc University and the Coburg Palace in Edelény as well as other historic buildings. The stamp shows the festival’s official emblem, while a detail of the interior of the Miskolc National Theatre features in the design of the cover. The main motif of the commemorative postmark is a stylised drawing of the stamp’s logo.
