Erzsébet Udvardi, Kossuth Prize winning painter’s work entitled Madonna with Angels on this year’s Christmas stamps
In accordance with its traditions Magyar Posta is celebrating Christmas with the issue of a postage stamp. This time a stamp decorated with golden foil, with a nominal value of HUF 130 is issued for posting festive wishes (domestic priority letters). This Christmas a work by Erzsébet Udvardi, painting artist, entitled Madonna with Angels is printed on the stamps. Besides the single stamp, a small stamp sheet is also issued to greet stamp collectors, with Christmas greetings printed on the frame drawing in Hungarian, English and German. In accordance with the postal tariffs the stamps of the previous years are also available. This year the stamp entitled Mary with the Child (HUF 80) issued in 2010 is reprinted this year with golden foil.
Erzsébet Udvardi, who lives and works in Badacsonytomaj, was born in 1929 in Baja. Holder of the titles Excellent Artist and Artist of Mert, her work has been recognised with several awards, in 1999 she was awarded the Kossuth Prize. The art historian Mimi Kratochwill described her as follows: "The significance and uniqueness of the artist’s lifework can be judged on the basis of her works. Her art and interests are represented by her works of religious art and biblical panel paintings, her visions of memory painted about her childhood and parents, her works inspired by mythologies, her illustrative oil paintings based on great literary works, and her pictures inspired by the Northern Balaton region. Her compositions are realised in oil paintings, murals, panels, aquarelles, charcoal and pencil drawings, always suiting the given theme and the possibilities of the given place. The Bible has always been a constant source of inspiration in the oeuvre of Erzsébet Udvardi. ... She turns the words of the Holy Scripture into sight, transforms them into contemporary pictures radiating a specifically individual opinion.”
This year again our customers can send their greetings to their distant beloved ones with a cancellation stamp from Nagykarácsony, as according to the traditions during the Advent period special cancellation stamps will be provided in Nagykarácsony.
